In the winter it's vital that gutters be free to do their job of getting the water away from the roof. If the gutter is full of ice then the next freeze/thaw cycle could lead to ice dams. When this happens ice actually works it's way under the shingles and then melts and runs inside the walls and ceiling. The damage is often not seen until it's bad.

Forgive my ignorance...being from Florida and all...why in the world would you want to clean iced gutters ?  Is it because of the weight ?  Seems to me like it would be easier just to wait until spring...
