All of the hot water will quickly cool off and freeze--creating ice on the
roof, side of the house, walkways, windows, etc. I once tried to open a
hole in the ice in my pond with hot water and it did nothing. I then put an
immersion heater in a 5 gallon bucket of water and it took all day to melt
though.
I would go with Robert's advice to notify customers.
